Oh No! It Might Snow!
02:40
|

Oh no, it might snow
Glued to the radio
Van comes to a halt
Buses won’t come at all
Oooh
Waiting for the snow to fall
Everything is cancelled
You’d prefer the rain
Snow could come again
Oooh
Watch the weather app
I’ll take another nap
Dropping mercury
Watch the snow from my balcony
Oooh

My Mother's Motherland
03:03

Finland, the Homeland
My mother’s motherland
She came here 50 years ago
She’ll tell you more than you want to know
About how there was so much snow
They had to wear 5 layers of clothes
She tries to hand the old ways down
Now they’re our family’s own
The motherland moves along
We still sing the same old songs
She learned in school when she was a kid
Now they’re songs that I cherish
Warped through necessity
Never wrote down recipes
She makes four different casseroles
Carrot, liver, turnip and sweet potato
Traditions start to blur
It’s important to talk to her
I know I’m not much of a cook
Now I know there is no book
I’ll pass on her memories
Of being young and running free
Of neighbour kids and Helsinki
Of growing up and deciding to leave

Mother says put the phone down
I'm sending wishes to friends afar
Finnish radio blaring
Dad is tending the bar
Fill my glass with Brandy
Fill my glass with wine
Drinking with our family
It's a pretty good time
Turn up the fireplace
Turn down the Bublé
Fighting over the stereo
Made to feel like a kid again
Never gave you grandkids
It’s a future you can’t predict
This is now our holidays
But this seems pretty perfect
Fill my glass with Brandy
Fill my glass with wine
Drinking with our family
It's a really good time

Cold & Sunny

Getting up before the sun
Brought some plants inside last month
Cold and sunny / Winter’s coming
Some petunias hanging on
Hope they don’t freeze before dawn
Cold and sunny / Winter’s cunning
Gaze out at the melting frost
Vapours from the rooftops
Cold and Sunny / Winter’s stunning
Hummingbirds still come to feed
Wonder where they go to sleep
Cold and sunny / Winter’s honey
Daylight Savings is a scam
Can’t see a thing at 4pm
Cold and sunny / Winter’s funny

Winter Stars
02:32
|

Lyrics by Sara Teasdale
I went out at night alone;
The young blood flowing beyond the sea
Seemed to have drenched my spirit’s wings—
I bore my sorrow heavily.
But when I lifted up my head
From shadows shaken on the snow,
I saw Orion in the east
Burn steadily as long ago.
From windows in my father’s house,
Dreaming my dreams on winter nights,
I watched Orion as a girl
Above another city’s lights.
Years go, dreams go, and youth goes too,
The world’s heart breaks beneath its wars,
All things are changed, save in the east
The faithful beauty of the stars.
